Dear Judy Ludy:
Let me start by saying, my husband is an ass. He is a self-appointed wine snob. If we are going to dinner at a friend’s house, he likes to bring a good bottle of wine, which sounds thoughtful; however, he is always worried they will not have the right wine glasses and wants to bring his own glasses!!! He says this is totally appropriate. I don’t think it is. What is your opinion?
Signed,
Forever Apologizing
Dear Apologizing:
Your husband IS an ass!!! No one in their right mind would take wine glasses to someone’s house for dinner. Does he realize what that says to the hostess? “Hey, I brought this great bottle of ’03 Cabernet for dinner. Oh, and by the way, I also brought my own wine glasses too because yours suck; I only drink from Riedel.” There isn’t a hostess in LA that wouldn’t be offended by that.
Next time the “ass” says he’s going to do that, you tell him you’ll see him when he returns from the dinner party. Don’t you dare go anywhere with him and his glassware! Although bringing your own glassware may be appropriate if you’re Bree VanDeKamp, NEVER, EVER is it appropriate in Los Angeles, or anywhere else for that matter.
The Ludy-ism… If you’re thinking of bringing your own wine glasses to my house for dinner, better think again! You’ll be drinking from them in your car, as I’d send you right back home with them!
