When I read in Monday, January 16th’s USA Today Life Section, that the season (series?) finale of Arrested Development will air Friday, February 10th from 8 to 10 pm OPPOSITE NBC’s opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, I said out-loud, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Where’s the logic in this? Isn’t there a better spot to air a season (series?) finale, than when millions of people worldwide will be watching an event like the Olympics? Why would one program a season finale of ANYTHING opposite the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics? I realize it’s February sweeps, but come on…there’s got to be a better, more fair place to air it.
As my friend “Stanley” said so eloquently, you may as well run “off the air bars” on the screen.
Arrested Development is one of THE best shows on the air; it’s smart, it’s funny, it’s original. In fact, I sometimes think it’s too smart for the average viewer, and THAT is, or was, it’s problem. However, “dumbing it down” is not the answer. I think lack of programming promotion may have been the problem. Rarely, if ever, did I see teasers for upcoming episodes run during the week. I hope there will be some promotion for the season (series?) end, so people at least know they have a choice; Olympics or AD; AD or Olympics…hmmm; AND, so the loyal few “Development-Heads” know and remember it’s quite possibly the final episode of a brilliantly written, directed and acted show.
I implore ABC or Showtime to pick up the series and run with it. Again, it is one of THE best series on the air, and the cast is amazing. They work so well together, one might think they really are the Bluth’s.
Respectfully…
A Troubled Viewer
