Judy Ludy’s Golden Globe Review; it was all about glitz, glamour and “Golden Globes?”

Written on Tuesday January 17, 2006

Let me start by saying, in my opinion, I saw 3 great moments last night…

  1. Steve Carell’s (The Office) thank you speech about his wife (priceless).
  2. Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) – a cute and unrehearsed speech; given from a light and genuinely grateful heart.
  3. Julian McMahan (Dr. Troy on Nip/Tuck) – he is sooooo hot!

As for the rest of the show, I was more taken by the fashion statements (or lack, thereof) of some celebs in particular. Needless to say, it was an evening of glamorous gowns, stunning jewels and ample breasts.

Candice Bergen (Boston Legal) looked great; the hair and high neck collar made her look very elegant and young.

Alanis Morissette – you should go back to your darker side i.e. loose the blonde hair.

From LOST, Evangeline Lilly (Kate Ryan) looked fabulous in emerald green gown (Elie Saab) and Yunjin Kim (Sun Kwon) looked very elegant in a cream/white number.

However, Gwyneth Paltrow should fire her stylist, or have looked one last time in the mirror before she left the house.  WHAT was that period piece (Balenciaga) she was wearing?  It did nothing for her skin color, (the gown looked to be some form of Eggshell) In fact, it made her look even paler than her normal skin tone; the hair was all wrong, and the makeup around her eyes and lips was too much.  Yuck!  And, did I detect a slight British accent?  Come on….!

Whatever happened to my Superhero, Dean Cain?

Pamela Anderson in one word – horrendous!  It was like she left the house in a black and white toga.

Note to Stylists:  You may want to check the lighting from all angles before you dress your celebrity.  Did I detect a peek-a-boo show going on with Charlize Thereon, or was it shadow from the light?

Mariah Carey looked awful; it looked like Mimi should have emancipated that dress!  And I’m glad to know she’ll only do things that happen “organically”.   Give me a break…!

Luke Wilson, so cute….likeable in whatever he’s acting in or wearing!

Note to Ms. Barrymore – you’re not 12 anymore; please put a bra on!  It was a very sloppy look (an emerald green gown and unkempt, longish hair) for such a talented woman.

Then one moment in particular stuck me…the introduction of Miss Golden Globe, by none other than her mother, Melanie Griffith (note to MG: please cover that tattoo on your arm).  However, my point here is…the young Ms. Dakota Johnson (also daughter of Mr. Don Johnson) never smiled once while she stood by her mother’s side, on stage, in front of millions of viewers (and potential industry employers).  She looked as though she were being forced to be there;   painful and shameful.  Your legendary grandmother, Tippy Hedron, must have been so proud of you with that scowl on your face.  I’m sure she was screaming at her television set…smile, damn it, smile!

And finally, Virginia Madison looked lovely in what looked to be sea foam green, double shoulder-strap number, as Harrison Ford so graciously ask her to hold his drink while he read the winner.  Did he think she was the cocktail waitress because her ample breasts were almost flowing out of her gown?

All in all, my take….better than last year’s awards, and more entertaining.  For a complete list of winners, go to: http://www.hfpa.org/news/id/26

See you at the Academy Awards, March 5th, 2006.
