Not only did the world loose Don Knotts on Friday, 2/24, but two more great old-timers passed this weekend as well.
Actor Dennis Weaver, best known for his role as “McCloud” died Friday, 2/24 at his home in Ridgway, Colorado from cancer complications, as well as actor Darren McGavin, 83, who died Saturday, 2/25 in a Los Angeles hospital from apparent natural causes. McGavin was best known as “Kolchak: The Night Stalker”, a pop culture hit and as Peter Billingsley’s crusty father in the 1983 film “A Christmas Story“. I can’t believe it!
Dennis Weaver started his career as a struggling actor who landed his first real role on the classic western “Gunsmoke”. Check out http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/27/obit.weaver.ap/index.html for a review of his career.
For me, Darren McGavin will be best remembered as Kolchak. Such a great series, and he was so charming in it. Mr. Ludy has the entire series on tape, and loves watching it. I can’t believe he’s gone. 3 great actors…all taken in one weekend. A BIG, BIG loss.
