The Black Dahlia…The Black Hole!

Written on Wednesday September 20, 2006

I went to the Arclight in Hollywood last night to watch The Black Dahlia.  The trailer made it seem very exciting; film noir, old hollywood glamour, young starlet gets the ax, you know…real old school thriller.

I’m telling you, it was anything but!!  It’s some of the worst acting, film directing, and plot I’ve ever seen, and whoever made the trailer for De Palma, did him a favor!  The trailer is so misleading that 5 minutes into the film, I thought I was in the wrong movie!!

The story line is soooo confusing, and the plot next to non-existent.  I’m still not sure if it was supposed to be a comedy, drama, spoof, or action film, it’s that hard to follow; and I wasn’t the only one having a hard time and laughing in the audience.  The moment Hilary Swank appeared on screen, and starting “acting”, the audience broke into laughter either because of her acting or that silly accent she was trying to use.  And I must say, I’ve seen Scarlett Johansson do better work.  Again, I believe alot of it was due to the directing.

The only great acting moments came from Mia Kirshner before she got the ax!  Josh Hartnett was okay, but there truly was no on-screen chemistry between himself and Johanssson or Swank.

Truly, one of the worst films I’ve watched in quite some time, and I went in with such great potential.

It makes me think HOLLYWOODLAND may be a waste of time as well.
